Biography
My journey in fashion has always been fueled by curiosity, craftsmanship, and a deep love for creating exceptional products. I was named Susan after Susan Spencer, a glamorous news reporter from my hometown of Washington, D.C., in the 1980s. When my parents told me this story, I instantly knew I wanted to pursue a career in fashion, designing pieces that are aspirational, glamorous, and unforgettable.
Before entering my professional career, I became a finalist in the Handbag101 Awards (IHDA) and was recognized for an innovative handbag concept featuring Swarovski crystals. The design was inspired by a dream catcher, where the crystals symbolized dreams and the chain represented the journey toward them, earning full sponsorship from Swarovski. During my junior year at Parsons School of Design in 2008, I also received sponsorship from PETA and UltraSuede for my sustainable design collection showcased in my annual student show. These experiences, combined with my IHDA recognition, opened the door to an apprenticeship with the couture house Viktor & Rolf in Europe following my graduation.
I studied Menswear design at Parsons, where my attention to detail naturally led me to specialize in footwear and handbags. Over the years, I’ve worked and consulted with leading brands including Alo Yoga, CALPAK, Kipling, Cole Haan, Calvin Klein, Saks Fifth Avenue, Kenneth Cole, Anne Klein, and others. My proudest achievement was serving as Lead Product Designer & Product Developer at CALPAK, where I led end-to-end design and development and helped double the company’s revenue.
I’m known for creating products that align seamlessly with each brand’s vision, aesthetic, and customer needs. My most recent role was Senior Accessories & Apparel Technical Designer at Alo Yoga, and I’m excited to continue shaping thoughtful, commercially strong products through design, strategy, and execution.
